As if losing a huge, talented senior class wasn’t bad enough for Episcopal Academy, the Churchmen also learned that they won’t have one of the best 2016s in the area anymore, either.
A source confirmed that 2016 attackman Peter Gayhardt, the younger brother of 2012 All-Delco defenseman and 2013 Daily Times Player of the Year Kevin, is transferring from EA to Catholic League power St. Joseph’s Prep.
The younger Gayhardt, who plays his club lacrosse for NXT’s 2016 team, was a revelation as a freshman Churchman as he led the team with 42 goals and proved to be a physical mismatch as a crease man. Already measuring in at 6-5 and tipping the scales at 215 pounds, he has tremendous potential and will leave a sizable – both literally and figuratively – in the EA offense.
Gayhardt’s 42 goals were tied for seventh best in the county. He joins a Hawklets team that finished second in the Catholic League in 2013 behind state champion La Salle. By several accounts, Gayhardt is also a promising football and basketball player, thus giving St. Joseph’s Prep a valuable boost in all three sports.
